TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ MAN PARRISH # 085 - PART 2
Man Parrish first release was "Hip Hop, Be Bop (Don't Stop)" issued in 1982, which has later been featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto, which sold millions of copies. It was sampled in Sway & King Tech's 1991 song "Follow 4 Now", from their second album, Concrete Jungle. His biggest chart success in the UK was his recording of "Male Stripper” under the artist name Man 2 Man, which peaked at No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart. He eventually signed with Elektra Records via David Bowie's manager Tony Defries who also managed his music career, but was dropped from the label in 1984, when they decided not to release the album he had recorded for them. Elektra signed him for dance music, his manager wanted him to create pop-rock. Man Parrish has mixed, produced and worked with various artists such as Boy George, Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper. He later served as the road manager for the Village People and Crystal Waters. In 2010s, Parrish was in negotiations with Pink Biscuit Records and was scheduled to release a record via Southern Fried Records, the label owned by Fatboy Slim. Parrish started his own label instead. From 2000 to 2015, he created the longest running underground New York City club party, at the CockBar called Sperm. In 2018, three pieces of his musical works were accepted into the Museum of Modern Art’s MOMA permanent collection in New York City. Film scores for Behive, (a modern dance film), The Jones's, (an indie art film) and his 1983 music video for "Hip Hop, Be Bop (Don't Stop)".In 2018, he also did a sound performance – installation for MOMA PS 1 titled The Box, asking the question: Is Sound Considered Art?

On this episode of True House Stories we are joined by legendary French Drummer, Producer, DJ Marc Cerrone. Cerrone shares with us his humble beginnings with the start of receiving his first drum set from his mother to working with his first group in the early part of the 1970's called The Kongas. He also gives us the inside story of how he made his drums be the most important part of the recording and working on the songs such as "Love In C Minor", "Give Me Love" and "Supernature" and how they became a big part of the American Dance Music culture. Cerrone explains how important the role of the arranger was especially with his songs and the role Don Ray played in the Cerrone sound.

In this Segment Teddy discovers songwriter and diva vocalist Ultra Nate'. The Basement Boys begin to work with Major Labels such as Warner Brothers, Eternal, MCA and Mercury Records. The first trip to London when he signs “Its Over Now” and meets Norman Jay. A music conference and a cassette is handed to the guys and Crystal Waters is discovered. Crystal writes the “Gypsy Woman” Song for Ultra Nate album and it released as Crystal Waters. Dj Danny Tenaglia breaks the record out at the Winter Music Conference and not to far after it goes Gold. Basement Boys are the hottest commodity in the game and Teddy wants to follow Motown Records and make it a family business with the same.

He leaves that pool to join Eddie Rivera's IDRC Record Pool and because of that move, Eddie helps put him forward for the A&R Consultant at Vanguard Records. In this part he explains what it was like working for older owners of a famous jazz label looking to step into Disco and all the wonderful records he was responsible for during his time at the label.

Over the past four decades LEEE JOHN continues to captivate audiences with his spectacular live shows across Europe – Africa – South America – Asia – as well as number of the French speaking territories with their ongoing love of his music.
In 2020 we see LEEE once again climbing up the charts on various playlist in the UK and across Europe with DJ/Producer TLOVE – featuring LEEE JOHN with the track written by LEEE titled “HORIZON”. Other recent musical collaborations include an explosive electric duet single called “Don’t Stop” with Plastic Bertrand, written by LEEE. He has also recently appeared as guest artist on the newly released Gorillaz Album “SONG MACHINE “ with the track “The Lost Chord” co-written with LEEE and Damon Alban.
Other exciting projects on the way this year will be the smooth and sultry sounding Latin single “Solitude” with x 2 Latin Grammy Award winning Brazilian Artist Jorge Vercillo. In addition, we also see a smooth jazz album with the phenomenal music maestro “Bill Sharpe” from English jazz-funk band “SHAKATAK” is in the pipeline and due for release in (2021), welcoming an incredible joint blend of smooth soul jazz tiled as “LEEE JOHN & BILL SHARPE” project as well as a long awaited new LEEE JOHN album apply titled “ACOUSTICLEEE” to coincide with an Inernational tour dates being planned featuring old and news songs performed live.
In other creative projects LEEE has been busy producing and directed 5 documentaries taking him as far away as Zambia , Tunisia, South Africa and France and is currently producing and directing ”Flashback” a Film of the history of British black music for which more than 200 interviews are already in the can, including Beverley Knight, Eddy Grant, Billy Ocean , Maxie jazz of Faithless , Ali Campbell of UB40, Mike Lindup of Level 42 , Trevor Nelson, Omar, Geno Washington, Maxie Priest, Sonique , Hamish Stuart of Average white band , Courtney pine Ruby Turner and many, many more - Flashback Documentary.
Finally, to coincide with 40th Anniversary of LEEE JOHN OF IMAGINATION (1981 – 2021) we are currently underway in planning a very special and unique anthology special de-lux box set of the complete IMAGINATION body of work repertoire spanning up to four decades to include all 10 + IMAGINATION albums, plus extra CDs with extended mixes, as well as previously unreleased tracks/mixes, this superior de-lux box set will be presented as the definitive career-encompassing box set and will run in conjunction with a series of planned UK & Intl live tours going into 2021/22.
LEEE JOHN OF IMAGINATION continues to tour the world and has appeared with many world renowned Artists such as The Jacksons, Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, Nile Rogers of Chic, Incognito and Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Recently LEEE was honoured and given a Lifetime achievement award in the UK and a Humanitarian award in France for his continuous ongoing charity work support in aid of SOS children, a world orphan charity. Singer, Songwriter, Live Performer, Producer & Director LEEE JOHN forever continues to challenge his own unique creativity and driving force in its endless boundaries and remains to delight fans around the globe with his timeless classic hits and new music releases.
